What to know about e-invoicing in Portugal

In progress — building now

QES signature · required since Jan 2026

What matters for you as a freelancer

  • A domestic B2B e-invoicing mandate is already live in this country — a plain PDF invoice may no longer be sufficient for local B2B transactions.
  • This requires a technical integration (Peppol network registration or a qualified electronic signature) that Agency OS is actively building.

What you don't need to worry about

  • This only applies when both you and your client are based in this country — cross-border invoices aren't affected yet.
  • You don't need to solve this yourself — we'll notify Agency OS users here once support ships.

What must be on a valid B2B invoice

We haven't confirmed Portugal's exact mandatory invoice fields against an official government source yet, so we don't want to guess and get it wrong. Across the EU, invoices typically need to show your VAT/tax ID, a sequential invoice number, the invoice date, a description of the goods or services, and the applicable VAT rate and amount — but check the specifics with a local tax advisor before relying on this for Portugal.

This is general information, not tax or legal advice — check with a local tax advisor for your specific situation.
